Students in the Architecture program enroll in a design studio—a hands-on, project-oriented class—each semester.
In their first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of design. In the second, the curriculum broadens to include assignments that focus on architectural problems. In the third year, the design assignments become more complex and inclusive of technical and life-safety requirements.
In the last three semesters of the undergraduate program, students choose a design studio that is smaller in class size and often focused on a particular program or place. In the final year of study—the thesis year—students devote an entire year of research and design to an architectural topic of their own selection, culminating in a highly resolved building design.
