The RAE[V] House (Renewable, Adaptable, Eco-housing [Vermont]) is a 1,000-square-foot, mobile, solar-powered dwelling intended to challenge the notion that high efficiency means out-of-reach costs, and that affordability means sacrificing beauty.
As a student-designed, student-built initiative, this project was born out of the School of Architecture + Art’s desire to discuss these issues on an international stage during the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2013 Solar Decathlon competition.
Geared for a Northern New England climate, the structure seeks to be a conservation-based model of ultra-modern solar living – a net zero energy, carbon-neutral house that renews our promise of better housing by enlisting clean-technology, pioneering construction techniques and rural New England ingenuity and thrift.
The project brought together students and faculty from Norwich’s architecture, engineering and engineering management programs.
